Passivation is carried out in order to block active centers on the surface of parts and create the thinnest invisible oxide layer. The goal is interoperational conservation and corrosion protection. Etching performed before passivation cleans the surface of uneven scale, especially in the area of welds.
The passivation of copper, unlike the passivation of stainless steel and aluminum, is only temporary.
